Match Reports 2017 - 2018

26 September 2017 - Year 8 Netball Competition

On Tuesday 26 September the Blue Year 8 netball team travelled to Soar Valley to compete in a netball tournament.

Sir Jonathan North played, and won, 3 games.  The team were: Nadia, Grace, Maz, Gabrielle, Erin, Beth, Eve and Zarina.
In the first match we played New College and won 5 - 1. It was a great match and everyone made some impressive passes and interceptions.
The second game was more tense and it was harder to score, yet we still managed to win 6 - 1 against Tudor Grange Samworth!  Eve scored multiple times, giving everyone a confidence boost.
The third and final game took longer to get started.  We played Crown Hills and the first half was very scrappy, however the second half was like watching a different team play!  Everyone was creating space and we won 6 - 1.
Overall it was a very good tournament. A massive congratulations to Erin as well for winning star player!

20 September 2017 - Year 10 Netball Success

Annabel, Year 10 Netball Captain reports on their latest achievement

The Year 10 Netball tournament got off to a rocky start, as the numerous bounce passes slid by the players and increased the intensity to the max. As the opposing team snuck in a few last-minute shots towards the end of the first match against Soar Valley, we lost 9 - 4. However, the second match of the afternoon went much better, and with the improved shots added to our fine-tuned marking, we triumphed - winning 8 - 4 against Leicester High School for Girls! As the games went on, so did our victories. Although our third match was against some of our old school rivals English Martyrs, we won that match 7 - 2! The last match of the day, where our tiredness was beginning to become evident, did not stop our skill, as we beat our last opposition Rushey Mead 12 - 5!

The squad: Chantelle, Nadia, Honey, Yasmin, Jordan, Annabel, Effie, Lauren, Dani, Grace and Mollie-Ann

Player of the tournament: Lauren!

Sadly we lost all of our matches but did well considering that we had 5 new players in our team.  The scores for each game were very close and we only lost by a few goals. We learnt a lot and all really enjoyed ourselves.

19 September 2017 - Henali Selected for Under 13s Girls Team

Sir Jonathan North are so proud of Year 8 student Henali who has been selected for the winter practice with Leicestershire County Cricket Club Under 13s Girls team.

In this recent year, I started playing Cricket for Sir Jonathan North College and later joined Electricity Sports Cricket Club (ESCC). At my Cricket club,  I performed to my highest standards and so they nominated me for a trial with the Leicestershire County Cricket Club (LCCC) Under 13s Girls Cricket team. On Sunday 10 September 2017 I went along for my trial selection at Kirby Muxloe. We were split up into two teams so that the coaches would examine our skills in a game situation. My team batted first and we scored a total of 162 runs in 20 overs: I contributed 30 runs to the overall total. My team bowled next and we bowled the whole team out for 137 runs winning the game. I took 2 wickets.

I really enjoyed this experience and gained a lot of knowledge about cricket. A few days later I got an email saying I was selected for the winter practice at LCCC U13’s girls Cricket team. I would like to thank Ms Lowther for encouraging me to play cricket and then helping me to take this forward to county level.
