French Trip to Paris and Normandy
Last week, the Modern Languages Team took 44 students on a residential trip to France. The five day trip was packed with exciting activities visiting the top attractions in Paris and the picturesque region of Normandy.
our first day, following a history lesson, we visited the famous Bayeux Tapestry, a medieval embroidery depicting the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. Students enjoyed discovering this remarkable work of art and understanding its importance as a source for 11th-century history.
There were many highlights of the trip: the time spent in Normandy, exploring the beautiful architecture and sandy beaches, Cabourg market, where students had the opportunity to put their language skills into practice whilst discovering why French cuisine is internationally known due to its ingredients. Ascending the second floor of the Eiffel Tower allowed a superb view of Paris, whilst the bateau-mouche excursion on the river Seine allowed students to discover most of Paris’ famous attractions, including the Louvre Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral. Our day in Paris ended with a relaxing evening in the heart of Paris’ artistic quarter, Montmartre, where we enjoyed an authentic dinner at a French restaurant, after visiting the magnificent Sacré Coeur church.
Our last day was spent at Disneyland Paris which was for many, the highlight of the trip.
‘My favourite parts were going to Disneyland Paris, going up the Eiffel Tower and going inside the Sacré Coeur church which was so beautiful. We also got to see the Bayeux Tapestry and it was amazing to see what happened in the battle of Hastings, especially as we learnt about it just before the trip with Mrs Moreton! I really enjoyed the trip and would go back in a heartbeat!’ Stella 8.2
‘I really enjoyed the trip. It was a great experience and my favourite part was the Eiffel Tower. It is definitely my best trip so far and I would do it again given the chance. As well as seeing the sites, we learnt a lot about France and the language.’ Chloe 8.3
