Indian Music Workshop
On the morning of Tuesday 16 October, specialists in Indian classical music, Gunwant and Bill from Leicestershire Schools Music Service visited college to deliver a hands-on workshop to a group of students in Years 7 – 11.
The session started with an in-depth and inspiring performance and presentation with Gunwant playing the sitar and harmonium, accompanied by Bill on the tabla drums. The students really enjoyed the performance and had the opportunity to ask questions afterwards.
The session concluded with a practical experience where the students each had the opportunity to play the sitar, tambura, harmonium and tabla drums to develop a group improvisation piece. The final performance was amazing and the students all really enjoyed it.
As a result of the workshop we have now established a link with Leicestershire Music Service and can now offer small group tuition on Sitar, Harmonium and Tabla.
