Hip Hop, Flamenco and Bhangra Dance Workshops for Year 9 and 10
A fantastic series of dance sessions for Year 9 and 10.
Year 9 and 10 Dance Students were invited to attend a series of three dance workshops including: Hip Hop, Flamenco and Bhangra. The sessions were organised to challenge and inspire students and to promote GCSE dance.
The first session took place on Tuesday 23 January and was led by Demi Essex a local choreographer and teacher. Demi taught an energetic Hip Hop routine to Missy Elliott’s ‘Pass that Dutch’ and everyone including Miss Matthew was challenged by her intricate and fast moves! Towards the end of the session the students really did themselves proud and performed in small groups. Following this Demi performed to the class and wowed us all!
The second session took place on Wednesday 24 January led by Laura Greasley in a Latin/Flamenco style and to begin with students were challenged with a strict posture and technique. Ultimately they had lots of fun with fans and salsa style steps!
The final session that took place on Wednesday 31 January was led by Bhangra Blaze Instructor Harby Chauhan. The session was very lively and full of jumps with various gestures to match the style. The students were really challenged with the stamina needed and had to sit down for a few breaks throughout the session!
These were an amazing range of workshops which challenged students’ confidence, technique and style. We look forward to welcoming other dance teachers from the local community to lead workshops in the near future!
Thank you and well done!
