Celebrating National Chemistry Week at Sir Jonathan North
As part of chemistry week at Sir Jonathan North, Leicester University Chemistry Department kindly delivered a session called 'Cool Chemistry'. The students had a fantastic time investigating exothermic and endothermic reactions, including experiments with dry ice and making mango sorbet using liquid nitrogen.
During the week symbols from the periodic table have been hidden around the school for students to find. Those that found the most won prizes which were kindly donated from the Royal Society of Chemistry.
In the library, students used their craft skills to create photo booth props on the theme of global science which was the national theme for the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Throughout the week at lunchtime, over 150 students participated in chemistry experiments including making bouncy balls, making alginate and wiggly worms.
The college would like to say a huge thank you to Ms Mynott for organising and arranging these activities and all science staff who gave up their time to deliver the lunchtime activities.
