National winner of the Modern Foreign Language Translation Bee 2017
We are delighted to announce that Zaynab 8.9 is the national winner of the 2017 Translation Bee competition.
The final was held on Monday 4 July in Cambridge, where the 45 finalists battled for a place in the top four. This is the second year that Sir Jonathan North has entered the Translation Bee competition, which started in 2016. Nesrin 8.6 also won fourth place which is an amazing achievement.
The competition, which is sponsored by the European Commission, involves Year 8 and Year 9 pupils competing to correctly translate the most number of sentences in French, Spanish or German in just 60 seconds.
Nesrin and Zaynab spent most of the academic year preparing for the school finals, before moving onto the regional final, where they both secured a place for the Cambridge competition. Both girls’ performances were truly amazing, and we are looking forward to entering them again next year.
