Spotlight on Year 11

We have had a busy week, which started on Monday with the launch of our targeted intervention campaign in assembly.  Throughout the week we have been meeting all students who are not yet on target and assigning them Assertive Mentors.  This will continue into next week.

It was great to see so many parents and carers at Parents' Evening last night. Your support plays a huge part in your daughter's outcomes. Research carried out by ‘The Campaign for Learning’ found parental support is eight times more important in determining a child’s academic success than their background.  Many parents were asking if there was anything else they could do to support their daughter.  At this point, the key things a parent can do to support their daughter are:

  • Make sure your daughter has a revision plan (she will be coming home with a blank plan next week to support with this)
  • Make sure she has somewhere quiet to work
  • Make sure she is getting plenty of sleep and eating healthily.

Safeguarding Snippet - Supporting Exam Anxiety at Home

The Rebalance Programme has put together a list of helpful Dos and Don’ts to support your daughter during the exam period.

It is important that during the exam period you talk to your daughter about her mental health and any anxiety she is feeling.  As the Rebalance team says ‘some stress and anxiety around exams is good and perfectly normal’.  However, we don't want your daughter to feel overwhelmed.  She must always feel she has someone she can talk to either at home or College.

Click here to see the list of Dos and Dont's.

Focus On - Year 8

During tutor times last term Year 8 students investigated Conflict Resolution. During the induction morning at the beginning of term,  students produced drama pieces on this topic.  These were filmed and entered into a competition. The winning entry was a performance by Zainab, Joanna, Zoha and Emma in 8.8. Well done!
