World Class Schools

Sir Jonathan North was proud to receive the World Class Schools Quality Mark in December 2016.

The World Class Schools Mark is awarded to schools already judged ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, but that have moved beyond this judgement. A World Class School improves student progress, aspiration and achievement to such an extent that their standards rival those of the best schools internationally. The World Class Schools Quality Mark seeks to establish whether a school has achieved the feat of imbuing their students with outstanding characteristics.

The assessment process for the Mark is innovative and provides a unique insight into the impact schools have on their students. The World Class Quality Mark descriptors apply to the students, not the school. Sir Jonathan North Community College initially undertook a self-assessment exercise to establish whether the Mark was right for us. A group of 6 students were then selected and assessed according to the Mark's criteria through an assessment centre process. The selected students found the assessment centre process rigorous, but the World Class organisation believes it is the calibre of the students that proves the calibre of the school.

The students independently gathered supporting evidence for each of the Mark’s criteria, created individual portfolios of evidence and video. The students’ work was externally assessed part-way through the process, according to achievement against the mark's requirements. Their work was deemed to be of exceptional quality and so they were invited to take part in the final assessment day. We are incredibly proud to have been awarded the World Class Schools Quality Mark. As the only World Class School in Leicester and Leicestershire, we believe this sets us apart from all other schools in the area.
