Sir Jonathan North Community College

Modern Foreign Languages

Overview

Modern Foreign Languages is a highly successful area at Sir Jonathan North with many outside organisations visiting to learn more about high quality teaching of a language. The College offers courses in French and Spanish both up to GCSE level.

The team are dynamic, vibrant, native and non-native teachers, who are dedicated to ensuring the progress and success of all students in language acquisition whilst developing their cultural awareness for personal, academic and career purposes.

The College uses a range of teaching methods to engage and challenge learners and promote independent learning strategies. Target language is used predominantly in all lessons and phonetical sounds are systematically taught throughout both Key Stages.

Our students have a wide experience of the languages they study within the curriculum and during extra-curricular activities. Visits and national competitions further enhance their learning with highlights including a trip to Normandy and Paris, a trip to Barcelona, and the National Spelling Bee Competition.
