Sir Jonathan North Community College

Victorian Britain

On Monday 4 December, Mrs Moreton's Year 8 history group, 8Hu1, had the privilege to have their lesson taken by two museum educators.

They taught us about the health in Victorian Britain. Our lesson was a very interactive lesson with props from the museum . We re-enacted a Victorian apothecary (pharmacy) and learnt how their imaginative treatments usually contained addictive or poisonous ingredients which later killed the patients. We also learnt that most children died before the age of ten due to illnesses such as typhoid and smallpox.
