The course is NCFE level 2 Certificate in Animation.  It will be taught over the same time as an
Art GCSE option.  (It is the equivalent of 2 GCSE level 2 A*-C qualifications).

The qualification is made up of 3 units from all of which evidence has to be shown and assessed.  The units will be covered in a series of projects with given briefs.  These will vary in size and length.  All the work produced will be used as evidence towards the completion of the course.

Additional Information

Option Block
This course is available in Pathway 2 in Option 1.

Career Information

The course provides a very good introduction to the world of animation and allows for students to create and explore ideas and techniques within this media.  It can be the starting point for any career, profession or job that is connected with the creative industries. This can range from working in advertising, film making, or going on to study aspects of film production.

Progress Information
From this course there are a number of routes and different specialisations available at AS or BTEC levels.  These can lead to foundation studies which in turn can lead to a degree.

Pre-requisites
An interest in film and especially animation, to be resourceful and creative, and to like to work ‘hands on’ developing ideas and stories for production.  The course will involve a number of skills such as scripting and storyboarding. Storyboards are visual ideas of the film you are about to create, something that has to be done before each animated sequence. You will also have to develop your skills in modelmaking to enable you to produce stopframe animations using different modelling materials.

The course is an excellent combination of practical drawing and making skills combined with a variety of digital manipulation software.

Enrichment
We run trips and visits, after school sessions and work with visiting artists.

Requirements
The students will be required to buy an A3 folder with plastic wallet inserts to file their coursework. Approximate cost £5.
