In KS3 we follow the national curriculum to provide students with a sound level of ICT capability and provide them with the transferable skills to build upon in their learning in other subjects. We try to give students the key skills required for a life using ICT and their KS4 courses, giving a real world focus to the tasks they undertake.
All KS3 students have a one hour discreet lesson of ICT a week and follow the units of work:

Mars Rover in the Dragons Den: Marketing Students are given groups and the task to design a Mars Rover robot suitable for the Mars environment. Their first task will be to create marketing material for their company and design the Mars Rover

| Modelling and presenting data: using spreadsheets to display and manipulate data | Developing Multimedia for a website: Students will create animation using several techniques to add to their Olympic websites |

| Presenting Information: Students will learn how to effectively present information, learning about how to communicate with an audience and understanding an audience’s needs | Modelling and using ICT based models to test predictions by changing variable and rules | Mars Rover in the Dragons Den: Modelling The company must be profitable and suitable for an investor, so the students must use some given costs to create a realistic business model |
| Controlling systems: Students will learn the basic principles of systems and use Lego Mindstorms robots to build simple and complex control programs | Handling Data: Students will learn the principles of relational databases and use and construct a relational database with complex queries | Mars Rover in the Dragons Den: Robot Building and control The students are then given the opportunity to build and create control programs for their robots |
| e-Safety: Students will use a variety of media to produce information about safely using ICT and the Internet. Who is it for?
ICT competency is a key skill in the modern world. This course has been designed to provide students with a high quality, industry-recognised qualification geared to the specific requirements of key sectors. It accredits candidates’ abilities to carry out a range of tasks and has been designed to recognise students’ achievements in a modern, practical way that is relevant to the workplace.
What will I study?
OCR National in ICT is a highly flexible, modular qualification that can offer a qualification equivalent to between one and four GCSE’s. We will be offering six full units and four half units to students:

How will I study?
You will use a modular e-learning system that explores every aspect of the course. Many of the theory elements are packaged into fun games along with interesting activities to produce coursework.
What exams are there?
There are no exams. The course is 100% coursework that involves a series of enjoyable tasks to produce the evidence required.
Option Block
This course is part of the Key Stage 4 core curriculum.
Career Information
Candidates achieving OCR National in ICT have an industry recognized qualification and are ready to go on to employment or further study in ICT at A Level and beyond.
