Getting Connected is an Open College Network accredited course which focuses on general life skills and emotional literacy. It is a module based qualification which does not have an exam and so reduces some of the final exam stress. The Getting Connected units are available to study at Level 1 and Level 2.

In addition to the Getting Connected modules a variety of topics can be studied to achieve credits towards the National Open College Network Level 1 Certificate in Skills Towards Enabling Progression (Step-Up) Qualification. The Step-Up qualifications are a range of credit based pathways designed to accredit a wide range of activities at Award (6 credits – 54 guided learning hours), Certificate (21 credits -189 guided learning hours) and Diploma levels (39 credits – 351 guided learning hours).
All modules have a different amount of credits at different levels but generally they range between 2 to 3 credits per module. For example Unit A knowing myself is worth 2 credits at Level 1 and 3 credits at Level 2.

What exams are there?
NOCN accredited course at level 1 or level 2 which is a GCSE equivalent. A level 1 Step-Up Certificate is equivalent to one B grade at GCSE. It is a module based course which is marked individually as each unit is completed. There is no exam.
Option Block
This course is offered to selected students as an alternative to one of their options.
Progression
This course equips students with practical skills useful in a wide range of employment and students following this course who achieve a Certificate can progress to a Diploma and other vocational courses.
