This is a two-year course to prepare students for practical/vocational employment.
Year 10
You will study towards your Bronze ASDAN Youth Award gaining practical skills in the areas of: Working with Others, Improving Own Learning and Performance, Problem Solving, Communication, Application of Number and Information Technology. You will complete a BTEC Level 1 unit in Vocational Studies. You will attend three taster courses at a further education college on Friday afternoons from a wide choice of subject areas. For example: Construction, Hair and Beauty, Catering, Business Skills and Horse care.
Year 11
You will study for your level 1 COPE qualification which will further improve your key skills of: Working with Others, Problem Solving, Discussion, Oral Presentation, Research and Improving Own Learning. You will complete a further BTEC Level 1 unit in Vocational Studies. You will also attain a Wider Key Skills qualification. Every Friday you will attend a further education college to pursue a vocational qualification of your choice for example: CACHE Level 1 in Childcare, City and Guilds level 1 certificate in an introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector, OCR Level 1 certificate in Administration or you may choose to spend all day on an extended work placement.

What exams are there?
The ASDAN Youth Award, BTEC Level 1, Wider Key Skills and COPE Level 1 qualification, are all coursework based. There are no final examinations.
You can achieve: ASDAN Bronze Award, BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Work Skills, Wider Key Skills Level 1, Cope Level 1 (equivalent to GCSE grade D/E).
If you attend college on a Friday in Year 11 you can achieve an entry level / level 1 vocational qualification in your chosen subject area.
Progression
Students following this course can progress to Further Education courses at level 1 or level 2.
